craft experience: yumihama kasuri (ikat)

March 28 & 29, Sat & Sun only.

Step into the world of Yumihama Kasuri, a traditional Japanese textile with a history spanning approximately 250 years. In this rare workshop, you will be guided by Seisuke Ikeda, who continues this distinctive weaving tradition in the legacy of Etsuko Shimada - a legendary figure involved in reviving Yumihama Kasuri.

Through a hands-on session, you will discover how carefully prepared threads come together to form the kasuri patterns. Under the craftsman’s guidance, participants will experience the rhythm and patience of this heritage using a loom to create their own piece to take home.

This workshop offers more than a technique—it is an opportunity to slow down, connect with the process of making, and appreciate the beauty that emerges from thoughtful, deliberate work.
